First of all, other than anything produced before 1990 (excluding the Beastie Boys), I have typically disliked rap and the new wobbly voiced r&b. So getting me to listen to a record called “A Night at the Hip-Hopera” was a longshot at best, but listen to it I did. I think I came across it while searching for something similar to the Beastles (a Beatles / Beastie Boys mashup). I downloaded it, threw it on, and gave it a listen.

I’ll write this in a day or so. For now, let me just say that Dexter’s sister, at least in seasons 1 & 2, is the least sympathetic character ever to show her twitchy face on television… and she has a 70s mouth (which makes sense if you think about it). I also want to jot down the main reason the show makes me so very confused / angry. Plotting is an important thing, but like cinematography, you know it’s really good when you don’t notice it at all. With Dexter, you can physically hear the plot grind and screech like the transmission of a Dodge Dart filled with particularly gritty kitty litter.

The Lexicon is where users can make lists of what they think should be required reading / viewing / etc. in a given genre. This comes from an oft-used phrase in our social circle, eg; “You haven’t seen Ghostbusters? You have to see it… It’s in the Lexicon!”

The way this’ll work is: This post (as many others) are linked directly to the forum. Members can put the name of a film in a post, as well as a description and why they think it should be in the Lexicon. Other members can vote up the films they want on the list. At the end of the voting period, the top ten will be placed in the official Lexicon. You can post as many movies as you like, but try to keep it under, like, 50.

*I realize that we’re stretching the definition of the term “lexicon” but it has history, so it stays.

There is a tiny bit of buzz regarding the new Thundercats film. Some production artwork has been released giving us a peek at a new design for Lion-O. I decided that’s a good excuse to use the Thundercats as the first in (I hope) a long series of re-design contests for the Syndicate. The idea is this: Re-design the Thundercats or a character on the show, in a way you’d like to see them.
I think these sort of contests will go on for about a month generally, but since we’re just starting this thing, I think we’ll let this one go for a couple months… just so we have some actual members to participate.
